Fire obliterates sacristy of Prestea Catholic Church
Fire has obliterated pastor pieces of clothing (chasubles) and sacramentals having a place with the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Prestea in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality in the Western Region.
The fire, which happened on Sunday evening around 2200 hours annihilated monstrance, cross, chasubles, archives, fellowship wine, oven, church instruments, books and some sacramentals kept at the sacristy of the congregation.
The fire, what began from an electrical primary switch in the sacristy was doused by the work force from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) after local area people came installed trying to put off the fire after seeing it.
Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Fire Safety Officer, Station Officer Ebenezer Kpodo who addressed the GNA said the sacristy rooftop was completely ignited with the structure building up certain breaks because of the warmth created from the fire.
He said the Service has prescribed to the congregation to lead appropriate evaluation of the structure to determine whether to revamp it or pull it down completely.
