Despite the Ghana Education Service’s ban on corporal punishment in schools, a video of a male student being whipped at Saint Stephens Presby Senior High/Technical School has surfaced online.
There is no concrete evidence about the infraction that prompted school officials to allow flogging as a penalty for the pupil.
In the video, which has since gone viral online, a man claiming to be the housemaster can be seen striking the student’s backside with a cane and allegedly flogging him with 25 strokes.
The footage, which lasted less than 30 seconds, shows other students standing by their belongings where the incident was taking place when the housemaster landed hard strokes behind their colleague.
Meanwhile, corporal punishment, which was previously regulated, was outlawed in Ghana by the GES in 2019.
