USAG Women’s Commissioner draws Hon. Francisca Oteng-Mensah’s attention to sexual harassment on university campuses

The Women’s Commission of the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG), Miss Amtu Akumfi-Ameyaw and female student leaders from member institutions were privileged to meet Hon. Francisca Oteng-Mensah, Member of Parliament for Kwabre East constituency on Tuesday, 16th November, 2021.

This visit came as part of a series of engagements outlined by the office of the Women’s

Commissioner to have female student leaders from across the country to interact with some

inspiring women in various sectors ranging from politics, business, humanitarian services et.

al. in an attempt to have them share in the experiences of these women and build their

individual capacities in rendering the best of leadership possible.

They commended Mrs. Oteng-Mensah for her service to the state as the youngest Member of

Parliament in the history of the 4th Republic, former National Youth Authority Board chairman

and currently the chairperson for the Gender and Children committee in parliament.

The Female leaders drew the attention of the MP to the prevalence of sexual harassment,

assault and violence on our campuses and the nonexistence of laws in Ghana on the subject

matter as well as in our various institutions. They also informed her of our preparedness to

support policies drawn to handle matters in that regard.

Hon. Oteng-Mensah assured them of the Gender committee’s readiness to liaise with female

student leaders in all its endeavors channeled at championing the female agenda.

She went on to encourage them to take opportunities as and when they come and to work at

remaining consistent in their efforts of being impactful.
